patiently awaiting Spring

My shopping habits have changed so much over the past few years.  I'm sure, like many of you, I brought things on impulse - a quick fix for a night out to be worn once before you see photographs of yourself the next day and think "urgh!"  I would also buy things thinking "Well, you can never have too many basic tops, pairs of tights, pants, bags, belts etc etc".  Another mistake is the classic of buying things that you love, but that don't suit you, fit properly, or you have nothing to wear with it.  Over the last couple of years, I have been getting better, although I most certainly a long way off from having a wardrobe that I am happy with.  Today, I went into Leicester city center to take a look in Dolly Mixture, a vintage shop that I love because it is reasonably priced and has lots of variety.  I walked away with two dresses today for £32 and felt guilty.  This is what happens when you spend too much time in charity shops and at table top fairs!  I am just adamant that whatever I buy will now be worn lots and lots, and hate the thought of items of clothing being shoved to the back of my cupboard, never to see the light of day again.  A big problem I have, is a serious case of a lack of confidence when it comes to clothes, accessories, hair and make up.  I play it safe 99% of the time, and prefer to blend into the background. I think I'm pretty good at choosing outfits for other people, but have trouble applying it to myself.  One area that I think I have improved in, is colour choice.  As you can see from the above image, I am still very much a fan of neutral tones at the minute, but I have seen a lot of spring colours around lately that I have caught my eye.  All of the items in the above Polyvore creation are from New Look.  I was looking on their website earlier, and they have some really pretty shirts.  Shirts is the perfect example of something that I want to wear, but just don't think that I can pull it off...  I particularly love the yellow one though, beautiful colour and style.  Hmm... it is my birthday very soon, maybe I will consider purchasing it if I feel brave enough!  I also really love all of the shoes.  Until about a year ago, I just didn't understand the obsession with shoes at all.  But now?  I wouldn't say that I am obsessed, but certainly do have a much loved and used collection :)  I lack anything with a heel though, being 5"9, I am really conscious of looking too tall, but I do want to get some wedges and give them a go...
I will try to get some photographs of my beautiful new dresses tomorrow to share with you all :)

  1. too tall at 5"9!? i'm a fraction under 6ft and i still go for a heel now and then...it's good for reaching things on high shelves and having good views!

and yes, new look (or poo look as my bf likes to call it) does have a couple of gems recently - although be wary of misleading website images... i find with their stuff, it often looks nice from afar, and then when you touch it the fabric is crispy and very cheap looking. especially the shirts.

lovely though, the middle one particularly is a real treat.

  2. Better to be your height rather than 5'2". Always have to alter hems and the like. And as for your styling. I think you do it brilliantly, There is nothing wrong with individuality. Looking forward to seeing the new frocks. I have a 1980 'Princess Diana' style dress in black if you ever need to borrow a long frock. Fashion always goes full circle. Don't you just love it! PS. It's all massive floral this Spring. Wow.

  3. I can totally relate to this post. I impulse buy and then feel horrible afterwards when I see it hanging in my wardrobe with the tags still on...6 months later. *guilty*
And the part about blending me? Me, too. Starting a blog to document my outfits is my way of motivating myself to be more confident and dress better.

Those pieces you selected are so pretty. I'm loving the whole sheer blouse trend, but it's so cold, I don't think I'd ever be able to wear those.
Go for the wedges and strut around confidently in them! :)

  4. You're not too tall for heels at all! If you look fab you will feel great. Confidence is everything and enjoying your clothes will make you feel confident.

  5. I'm exactly the same as you - stay safe with clothes but then occassionally I will buy something completely insane that I wear once, realise afterwards I lookd ridiculous in, and then never wear it again! Sigh. Loving the neutrals though - keep us informed of your choices, might help me with my own :S x
