my first handmade dress, the story so far!

Fabric arrived on Thursday.
Pattern pieces cut out on Friday.
Sewing began today.

I ventured upstairs to my sewing machine about three hours ago, thinking that this dress making process would take, hmm, an hour?  OPTIMISTIC MUCH?!  I have not yet finished the dress, I need to hem the bottom and make some alterations to the bodice section as it is too large, but all in all, no huge disasters!  This is shaping up quite well for my fist ever garment :)

P.S. I'm very aware of how tired I look in this photograph, sewing is intense!

  3. The dress looks really good! Making a dress is what I aspire to... seeing as I literally can't sew a button back on without help.

  12. it's looking great! how did you get started sewing? i can hand sew quite neatly and I've made bags and purses and things, but the thought of hand stitching an entire dress is daunting and I've never got to grips with my mother's sewing machine :/

  17. So cute! Dressmaking always takes waaaaay longer than I think it will. I'll be happy if I make one thing per month this year... although of course I'd be happier if I made more than that. Gotta stop spending so much time reading blogs!

  18. What a clever person you are. The fabric is fab.
The art of dressmaking is to never admit to mistakes. They are just modifications you needed to make. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
