Sunday afternoon bag making

I spent this afternoon making myself some new bags! The fabric for the top one came from Ikea - they have some really beautiful fabrics and they are very reasonably priced too! I must add that I did add the 'tweet, tweet" speech bubble, however slightly regretting that particular customising decision now...
The second is made from two old pillowcases, the first for the main section of the bag and the second for the handles and the pocket on the front. I cut the image of the dog from an old tea towel, entitled 'Favourite Dogs'.

bunting for my Mum

My Mum mentioned a while ago that she liked the bunting I had made before (for the Bathing Beauties Festival in Maplethorpe and the reverse appliqued ones that I made for my nieces), so I decided to make her some for her summer house in the garden (obviously won't be suitable to hang up for a few more months though!) I made it from old pillowcases and ribbon.

vintage hat

Found: Dolly Mixture, Leicester
£10

I brought this hat at the beginning of the summer, is yet to be worn in public though! It is made by Kangol, if I am correct I believe that there was a Kangol factory in my hometown when I was little! I love the netted detail and the beautiful large bow on the back.

Practical Craft Projects Book

Found: Oxfam, Oadby, Leicestershire
£1.99

I went into Oxfam after work today, and the elderly lady now recognises me... does this make me cool? I believe so.
This book is full of lots and lots of craft projects, some amazing, and some just plain odd, but either way inspiring.
I love the knitted 'beastie hat' - have been looking for one like this for ages. This is a very good reason for me to learn how to knit.

Floral throw

Found: Porte D'Orleans Flea Market, Paris, July 2009
approximately £3

I saw this beautiful throw poking out of an open suitcase whilst browsing around a flea market in Paris. The stall holder must have been impressed with my excellent French, as I got this and a huge collection of old photographs, cards and postcards for 10 euros!
The throw is about 2 metres squared. I brought it with the intention to wear it as a shawl in the winter, but it really is rather big! Think I will use it as a throw on my armchair instead.

Floral top

Found: Oxfam, Oadby, Leicestershire
£2.99

This top is actually a size 18, but when on, it looks just like one of the oversized tops that are everywhere at the moment! Hoping that it will look good with a pair of skinny jeans or a high waisted skirt.

1986 Fashion Extras Book

Found: Oxfam, Oadby, Leicestershire
£1.99

It will soon become apparent that I have a small obsession with 1970's and 1980's craft books.
What convinced me that I needed this particular book in my life was the "Fun Fox" stole (above).

1920 The Little Girl's Sewing Book

Found: The Watermill Saturday Car Boot Sale, Barton--le-Clay, Bedfordshire

My Dad found this beautiful little book for me, whilst buying himself some equally old books (including a very dusty one entitled "Twilight Stories" and a song book, which includes the music and lyrics to some sea-shanties (which I have currently 'borrowed').

Rose Fabric Panel

Found: Saddington Sunday Car Boot Sale, Leicestershire, 20/09/2009
10p

I spotted this beautiful fabric in a cardboard box underneath
someone's stall at a car boot sale. I have just used it to make
a tote bag, lining it and making handles from some white cotton.

Cherries and Polka Dots Tablecloth

Found: Saddington Sunday Car Boot Sale, Leicestershire, 20/09/2009
20p

I initially thought I would use this tablecloth for fabric to make something new, but I have now decided to keep it in storage to use as it was intended (once I have enough space for a dining table).

1980's floral cardigan

Found: Saddington Sunday Car Boot Sale, Leicestershire, 20/09/2009
£1

I stumbled across a lady who was selling loads of her elderly mother's clothes (she tells me she is a hoarder), and everything was £1. Along with this floral cardigan, I came away with a 1980's black Dorothy Perkins dress with a low scolloped neckline.

Dressing Table Mirror

Found: The Watermill Saturday Car Boot Sale, Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire
£5

I have wanted a mirror like this since I was a little girl but could never really justify paying the £20+ that I have usually seen them sold for in charity/vintage shops. So I was very pleased to find this one for only £5 - and it's in great condition. Just need an equally beautiful dressing table to place it on top of now...

1960's Paris notebook cover

Found: The Watermill Tuesday Car Boot Sale, Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire
£1

This was a bit of an impulse buy, as I purchased it a day before going to Paris. I don't regret it though, as not only is it practical, but the illustrations are beautiful too.
